Mars Hill Library

The library celebrated its grand re-opening on June 12, 2010. The large turnout was testimony to the community's love and support of its library which is a community center in many ways. Long time library patrons and newcomers alike are finding their way to this inviting new space.

In addtion to the traditional books, audiobooks and videos, the library offers free high speed access to the Internet, both through desktop PCs and WIFI for those who bring their laptops.

The new facility has doubled the space of the previous building, and we now have a room that groups can reserve for their activities. A lounge area for browsing and quiet conversation is set back from the main flow of people coming in to use the computers or find their favorite authors' new books.

The children's corner is now bright and spacious with plenty of room for Story Times and Make-&-Take Crafts. A new Thomas-the-Train set was added by Madison County Smart Start in honor of John & Beverly Hough, to the delight of youngsters. The library's Wish List includes an oversized easy chair for this corner so adults can enjoy sitting with their children to read a story, or have some quiet time together.

The friendly staff are always ready to assist visitors and make everyone feel welcome.

The library is a partnership between Madison County, the Town of Mars Hill, and a citizen group -Friends of the Library. Madison County provides librarians, employees, and book services.

The Town of Mars Hill owns the library building and provides operating funds such as telephone, utilities, supplies, building and grounds maintenance and insurance. Friends of the Library helped raise funds for the recent building expansion and improvements of physical facilities, and are working to assure quality furnishings, programs, and services. They also fund children's programs at the library.
